For the past few weeks we've all been fighting a little bug. It started at the beginning of our family vacation. It is totally normal for the kids to get sick when we go to Colorado. Every time we head to the mountains, they get altitude sickness. And I always seem to suffer from allergies. So we went with a pharmacy in a bag. Lots of Zofran, Claritin D, Tylenol, etc. We just deal with it.
But then came a cough that just hung around. We figured that the kids had caught a little bug - seeing that they were exposed to a their cousins who all go to school, that they had picked up a bug from one of them. So we gave them cough drops, honey, cough syrup....nothing worked.
Then I got the cough. Then our oldest got the cough. But thankfully they went away. But not Maddie. Her's stuck around.
We were all losing sleep and something needed to be done.
I was hesitant to take her to the doctor because they usually say "It's a virus. Just let it run it's course." I'm sure the staff at the doctor's office sees me coming and think "oh boy, here comes THAT Mom again". You know what I'm talking about. That Mom that runs to the doctor every time their kid sneezes.
So instead of being THAT Mom, John was THAT Dad. And I'm SO thankful!! To test her they had to stick a long Q-Tip up her nose. Just thinking about it makes me squirm. She was a trooper though. She just sat there with this Q-Tip hanging out of her nose while John, Johnny, the doctor and her nurse sang "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and "Row, Row, Row Your Boat". Then they prescribed her with antibiotics and said she's quarantined for 5 days. If it comes back positive then the whole family needs to be quarantined and take meds.
So much for those weekend plans!! Moral of the story: don't worry about being THAT Mom or THAT Dad. Take them in!!
