We are nearing the end of the vacation series. If you haven't read Part I or , make sure to go back and read those first.
Today is all about my husband and me.
While we were in Colorado we celebrated our 6th anniversary. And what better way to spend the day than sneak off to our favorite place in the state? in Estes Park. If you haven't been there, GO! These pictures do absolutely no justice to the beauty that lies in those mountains.
We arrived and headed to this beautiful waterfall (that's John at the top of the photo on the left....I decided to stay at the bottom and
soak my feet take his picture).
While we were there, we learned the story of the Lawn Lake Flood. The earthen dam gave way almost 30 years to the day that we were there, killing 3 people. After reading up on this, it's amazing that only 3 people were lost. I won't get into the details here, but if you're interested in a few tidbits, click .
Ok, did you notice those rain drops on the sign above? Because this is where we started to think "Oh man, maybe coming here today was a bad decision. It's going to rain all day." But we went with it and headed off to see what else we could find. We decided to head down a dirt road. When we got to the sign below, it started to hail. Joy. Nine miles, one way, on a dirt road in a hail storm. Perfect.
Thankfully the hail stopped just as quick as it began. This really worked out great for us because we only encountered a handful of other vehicles on the road. So we were able to drive really slow and enjoy all that God had laid before us.
Like these guys, who refused to move out of the middle of the road. Good times.
All in all we had a great day celebrating our life together.
When you get to sneak away, where is your favorite go-to location?
