Staying Connected

What a week this has been! We arrived home from our trip a week ago today and jumped right back into our normal routine. School, work, etc. That is, everyone except John. He is off through the end of the month. Lucky!!

The kids have been troopers. They headed back to preschool with such ease. I on the other hand had a harder time. I mean, work was fine, but I had an issue with them going back to school. I had gotten used to having them around 24/7. So I struggled with them being away all day long. And they seemed just fine without me. Don't get me wrong! I LOVE that they attend preschool! It's healthy for them to be in an environment full of learning, full of kids their own age. Plus I love their school!! But I miss them terribly during the day!

I'm thinking it's time that I start volunteering more at their school.  Not only will this give me the opportunity to stay connected with the kids, yet give them the chance to be with their friends, it will also allow me to get connected with other Moms. Which I desperately need.

How do you stay connected with your kids, but still also allow them a bit of freedom?

  1. Angie, I totally understand how you feel! I had such a hard time sending my two older kids to preschool even though they were only going for a total of 4 hours a week! It's just the letting go. Know that this slowly leads to them "leaving the nest". They are now in elementary school. My 3 year old will be going to preschool next year and I'm going to miss her terribly. She's my little buddy and constant companion. Like you, I know it will be good for her. I do volunteer at school as much as possible. They loving seeing me there. As 2, and 3 graders, they still like to see me. It's rewarding knowing I'm helping the teachers, but there for my child! Good luck!
