Laundry Time!

If the rest of you are like me, then I'm sure you feel my pain when you run to the store to buy detergent & fabric softener and see the price! They want me to pay how much for soap!? Seriously, I'm done with that! I'll still have to buy detergent for John since his military uniforms need to be washed in certain detergents (if you know of any ACU friendly homemade detergents, let me know!). But other than that, I'm done purchasing laundry products that I can make for so much cheaper!
Here's what my laundry room used to look like.

Now comes the Laundry Room Makeover!

First, let's take a look at the fabric softener. It was super easy!
3 cups conditioner ($1.00)
4.5 cups white vinegar (I used part of the gallon I already had)
12 cups of water (FREE)
See! I told you it was easy! Plus you can choose the scent! I went with Suave's Ocean Breeze since it smells clean and fresh - not to mention a little laundry-ish.

**When you're ready to use, just give it a little stir**

Now for the detergent.

20 Mule Team Borax ($2.99)
*Fels Naptha Bar Soap $1.00 (my store was offering 3 for $3.00)
Arm & Hammer Washing Soda ($2.99)

*Fels Naptha is a laundry soap - look for it in the laundry aisle*

My recipe calls for:
1 bar Fels Naptha Soap
2 cups Washing Soda
2 cups Borax

Instead of spending the time grating the soap, I chose to pop it in the microwave for 1 1/2-2 minutes just to get it brittle. Then I threw the soap, washing soad and borax into my Ninja and in just a few seconds, I had laundry detergent (and a lovely smelling kitchen). If you'd like to add a scent, feel free to throw in a few drops of your favorite
essential oil.

I made 3 times the recipe (using almost an entire box of borax, washing soda and the 3 bars of soap I had) and I'm sure it'll last me a while seeing that you only need
2 tablespoons per load!

Next comes fabric sheets!!
